Island Horror

Team Grendel is out of options. With a mysterious enemy destroying their refuges, the crew of the Beowulf III is forced to seek sanctuary on an island that wants nothing more than to kill them all, an island that is pure death and evil. Kelsey Donovan returns to the old house to catalog her estranged grandfather’s collection of artifacts and antiquities, vowing to see his treasures divested properly.

Intrigued by other sailors’ superstitions of a cursed island, Sam Lenartson rows out to see for himself. Once there, he discovers an abandoned house with a mysterious tenant.

It was their love for sailing that brought Jack and Karen Billings together. Anytime they had free time, they could be found aboard their most prized possession, the Marlow Explorer. "Why don't we throw a Halloween party?" Jack volunteered. "The weather looks perfect for sailing, and it'd be a great way to get all our friends back together." Karen smiled at the thought, remembering the parties from their younger days. "That's a great idea," she replied.

Hell Hill Island was founded in 1863 by Marshall Sam Tucker who didn't believe in a fair trial because of his short fuse. If you back talked the Marshall, he would shoot you in both legs, then drag your wounded body with a rope he held as he rode his horse up to the Gallows to be hung high and when the Marshall was through watching the dead body swing back and forth on the Gallows, he would set their body on fire and light his cigar from the flames off their body.

This story revolves around an empty house on an uninhabited island in this work by Algernon Blackwood. The atmosphere is filled with dread, and the flow of the prose is superb.

We all long to find a time when we can escape the daily grind and find a hideaway where we won’t be disturbed. We may have projects to complete or rest to enjoy, but the choice of that location is critical. Algernon Blackwood provides a short story of just such a man who is alone in a cottage on a Canadian island. He should have picked a better location, but then this memorable story wouldn’t exist.

Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) was a prolific English writer, now best remembered for his science fiction novels, and is often credited as being the father of science fiction. 'Aepyornis Island' is the strange tale of a naturalist who finds himself adrift in a canoe in the Indian Ocean, with three mysterious rare giant eggs which he has collected. He knows they are the eggs of the aepyornis - a bird which has been extinct for hundreds of years. He is amazed, when hunger forces him to try one of the eggs, to find that it is fresh.

But when a mysterious accident occurs during his watch, Mason finds himself relying on the only person on Biter's Island he knows he can't trust.

Seth Harrington always dreamed of living in a mansion with an ocean front view. He knew that this dream would only be a dream if he didn't finish school and become a doctor. Seth was finishing up his last semester in college and his dream was closer to becoming a reality. Finally, his graduation day was here and as he walked across the stage and his diploma was placed in his hands, he said, "I made it, thank you so much," as he shook the President of the Colleges hand. Seth's private practice was flourishing.
