The Korean Spirit: Poems is a collection of poems that captures the hopes and the fears of ethnic Koreans around the world. She becomes obsessed with Sienna to the point she complicates things on a truly horrific scale.

현대 도시인의 탐욕에 대한 조롱과 소시민의 소외 등 우울하고, 냉소적인 주제를 다룬 그는 한 예술가의 고뇌를 그린 남성 모노드라마 『콘트라바스』(1984)가 '희곡이자 문학 작품으로서 우리 시대 최고의 작품'이라는 극찬을 받으면서 알려지기 시작한 작가이다. 전세계 매스컴의 추적을 받으면서도 좀처럼 모습을 드러내지 않는 작가인 그는 사람 만나기를 싫어해 상 받는 것도 마다하고, 인터뷰도 거절해 버리는 기이한 은둔자이다. 여린 얼굴에 가느다란 금발, 유행에 한참이나 뒤떨어진 낡은 스웨터의 극히 적은 사진만을 공개하고 있다.

『작은 공주 세라』는 『소공녀』의 새 이름이다. 원제 『A little Princess』에 일본식 표현이 아닌 저자의 의도를 살린 한글 제목을 붙였다. 부잣집 학생으로 특급 대우를 받다가 아버지의 죽음으로 어느 날 갑자기 누더기를 입고 허름한 다락방으로 쫓겨난 세라. 하지만 누구보다 강한 내면의 힘으로 역경을 이겨내는 소녀. 세라의 스펙터클한 인생 드라마는 1905년에도 지금도 수많은 독자들에게 희망이 되어준다. 연극, 영화, 애니메이션으로도 끊임없이 재창조되는 『작은 공주 세라』는 작품성과 내용 면에서 그 가치를 인정받으며 어린이와 교사는 물론 어른들에게도 반드시 읽어야 할 필독서로 꼽히는 작품이다.

대부분이 피난을 가서 텅 비어 있는 서울, 갑작스레 사상과 권력이 뒤바뀌고 이분법적 논리와 인식의 틀이 몇 안 남은 사람들의 삶도 깊이 갈라놓는다. 『목마른 계절』은 마구잡이로 뒤섞이고 무너져 내리던 혼돈 속 서울에서 1년간 벌어진 이야기를 인민군 부역을 하는 여대생 진이의 시각에서 그린 작품이다.

동구는 마음이 복잡하다. 야구를 좋아하는 만큼 떠안아야 할 책임의 무게도 커져 간다. 동구는 이제 경기에 나서는 게 즐겁지가 않다. 동구는 감독님의 작전을 따르지 않다가 경기를 망쳐 버렸다. 동구는 다시 경기장에 나설 수 없을 것 같았다.

삼국지에서 가장 재밌는 이야기인 적벽 대전이 벌어집니다. 조조의 배들을 묶게 하는 봉추의 지혜와 동남풍을 불게 하는 제갈량의 능력이 돋보이는 부분입니다. 손권과 유비의 연합군은 적벽에서 조조의 백만 대군을 불바다로 밀어 넣어 마침내 대승을 거두게 됩니다. 관우는 옛정을 못 잊어 화용도에서 조조를 놓아주는 실수를 하게 됩니다. 이 실수로 조조는 다시 힘을 모아 유비가 다스리는 서천을 공격하게 됩니다. 관우의 이런 행동을 예상한 제갈량을 보면 사람을 꿰뚫어 보는 제갈량의 능력이 놀라울 따름입니다.

유비가 세 번이나 몸소 찾아가 제갈량을 얻게 되는 이야기부터 시작됩니다. 제갈량이 유비에게 천하를 세 개로 나누라는 계책을 알려 주는 부분에서 우리는 그의 지혜에 놀라게 됩니다. 또한 흥미로운 이야기도 많습니다. 그 가운데서도 조운이 홀로 유비의 아들 유선을 구해 내는 이야기, 허수아비만 가득 실은 빈 배를 이용해 조조군에게서 10만 개의 화살을 거저 얻어 내는 이야기 등이 그렇습니다. 이런 이야기들은 자꾸 봐도 질리지 않고 볼수록 더 빠져드는 재미가 있습니다.
