Life Poetry

A collection of poems that I wrote that will take you on an exploration of life, death, and mostly everything that exists in between, from an aging perspective starting with that of a seventh grader to now a 25-year-old.

My book includes poems from my teenage years and current. The poems cover a broad range topics which, include, love, relationships, racism, heritage, traveling, the Covid-19 pandemic, and family.

These books are a collection of whimsy humor, love of people, memories, precious moments, thoughtfulness, and the love of God and his creation. I am a multifaceted creative writer who uses the canvas of life to shape the journey of embracing the soul and heartbeat of my creations. This definitive collection, I hope, will build the bridge to discovering how we all as human beings share the common thread of unity and love through life's delicious moments that evokes a sense of timelessness.

The date is March 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic is sweeping the world, instigating lockdown in country upon country. Life has suddenly changed, personal freedom is a thing of the past, as friends and extended family are separated through social distancing. In a small house in "the street of the hollow eyes" lives a family of four in an ordinary neighborhood trying to get on in these times. Until the extraordinary happens when the father develops a fever.

This is a small book of poems about some of the difficulties we may face on our journey through life.

Crystal Life Shining Bright is another work of spoken words written by S.L. Worthen A.A.S. with current life content that starts with a true look into the effects of crystals on life as its opening topic. It begins with a spin that makes you stop and think again. The power of crystals was on the earth before man.

"I lie in the dust and lookup at the world...." So begins the narration of an allegory revealing irony behind a perspective twist of education. "...I gaze up at the grasses towering above me. I watch the feet of people as they pass, some shuffling, some lightly and barely touching the ground. Some with steps like a dance. I have lain in rain and sun and seen the lightening streak across the sky. I wonder if today is the day my life will move on again...."

This book holds not only the beautiful rosebuds of life’s growth, but also its sharp, threatening thorns. Every poem is left to fulfill another journey, never relying on that of another to do so. In this story the child is invited on a journey where honest discourse and communication result in clarity. The child and the main character, Art Fine, get to know each other in the story. The child's observations are voiced and received while Art Fine does the same. "My Name Is Art Fine" begins with a child who is curious about who they are encountering. It becomes clear that the child has questions regarding the information being shared.

In this story the child is invited on a journey where the narrator must find courage to take on a new challenge. The Animal Kingdom characters of Bravery and Bolder are called in to assist and model strength for the child. "The Away Cast” plays on the meanings of the word "cast." It is used as term for the cast of a play and also as a to examine the idea of the fear related to being "cast out." The story unfolds with the narrator auditioning for a play even though it creates some anxiety and discomfort.

In this story the child is invited to experience their mornings in a unique and beautiful way. The optimism that the story presents is practical as well as heart-warming. "The Morning Good" offers a standing invitation to the child. The child will learn that every morning is a fresh new day, with unlimited adventures to embrace. It has a rhythm which encourages the child to look upon each morning as special.

In this story the child is invited on a journey to a magical place. The narrator welcomes the child on a voyage that is complete with the theme of inclusion throughout. It is a place where peace and harmony reign supreme. “The Inclusive All” offers a standing invitation to the child. The child will learn that they can actively engage with literature that is also entertaining. This is story for all times of day because it is characterized by the freedom of joy and happiness.

In this story the child is invited on a journey to a town where there is a fantastical train. This train has amazing boxcars for the child to visit in this book. This book is designed to address all kinds of emotions with the help of some furry friends. “The Emotion Commotion Locomotion” offers a standing invitation to the child. Journey to the tail of a rainbow’s end and see what transportation adventures await. The child will experience a train where unique feelings are represented in each boxcar.

In this story the child is invited to visit a very popular and in-demand destination. The narrator explains that the not is all it seems because the brochure over-promised and under-delivered. "The K-OH!” offers a standing invitation to the Child. The Child will be included on a journey to this imaginary place that is made real due to a myth. The myth is that using the word "okay" frequently to describe thoughts and feelings is exceedingly appropriate.

In this story the child is invited on a healing journey where their loss is personified as a fictional visitor known as the Loss Total. The narrator models a coping technique as an example for the child dealing with grief of any sort. “The Loss Total” offers a standing invitation to the child. The child will learn that others also experience loss and they can utilize Nature to assist with healing. It allows them to explore their emotions, such as confusion and distress, that grief ushers into to their young worlds.
