Histoire
When Green Beret Lieutenant James N. Rowe was captured in 1963 in Vietnam, his life became more than a matter of staying alive. In a Vietcong POW camp, Rowe endured beri-beri, dysentery, and tropical fungus diseases. He suffered grueling psychological and physical torment. He experienced the loneliness and frustration of watching his friends die. And he struggled every day to maintain faith in himself as a soldier and in his country as it appeared to be turning against him.

They fought a war without rules, and taught the enemy the legend of the Green Beret. No fighting men in the world were a match for the U.S. Army Special Forces, the men of the Green Beret. But in the chaos of Vietnam, where enemies, allies, friends, and traitors all shared a landscape of terror, the Green Berets had to develop their own tactics and draw closer to the only people they could trust: each other.

Histoire
Every war has its "bridge" - Old North Bridge at Concord, Burnside's Bridge at Antietam, the railway bridge over Burma's River Kwai, the bridge over Germany's Rhine River at Remagen, and the bridges over Korea's Toko Ri. In Vietnam it was the bridge at Thanh Hoa, called Dragon's Jaw. For seven long years hundreds of young US airmen flew sortie after sortie against North Vietnam's formidable and strategically important bridge, dodging a heavy concentration of anti-aircraft fire and enemy MiG planes. Many American airmen were shot down, killed, or captured....

The Vietnamese stole their land. The NVA raped their daughters. The Green Berets know them as the most fearless and loyal warriors in the land. They were the Montagnards, who called themselves “Sons of the Mountains” and always fought to the death. In this incredible memoir of wall-to-wall combat in the jungle near the Laotian border, Special Forces Lieutenant Don Bendell recounts the saga of the A camp of Dak Pek, 242.

Why were the American POWs imprisoned at the Hanoi Hilton so resilient in captivity and so successful in their subsequent careers? This book presents six principles practiced within the POW organizational culture that can be used to develop high-performance teams everywhere. The authors offer examples from both the POWs’ time in captivity and their later professional lives that identify, in real-life situations, the characteristics necessary for sustainable, high-performance teamwork.

Robert Foley had only been in Vietnam for six months when he was promoted to captain and given command of a rifle company. In November 1966, Foley led his men on a mission to rescue another company that had been pinned down by Viet Cong forces. His leadership that day inspired his men and led to a successful operation—and the Medal of Honor. His actions in Vietnam were only a small portion of a long and varied career of service in the US Army, but Foley did not always seem marked for success.

This closing chapter of the war would become the largest-scale evacuation ever carried out, as improvised by a small unit of Marines, a vast fleet of helicopter pilots flying nonstop missions beyond regulation, and a Marine general who vowed to arrest any officer who ordered his choppers grounded while his men were still on the ground.

Following their fallen brothers home, Andy Carter and Jim Anderson struggle to carve out a normal life post-combat. Dead-end jobs are the least of the insults they must endure. Instead of the hero’s welcome they’d expected, they’re greeted with contempt or apathy by those waiting back home. Betrayed by those they fought to protect and burdened with the guilt of surviving, the friends make the only choice that feels right—they reenlist. After all, who’s going to help protect the soldiers left behind?

A prisoner, transported to a plane for a court-martial in the States, will face an almost certain death penalty. This promise of justice is a small comfort for Carter and his squad. The year is 1969. Private Andy Carter serves in Quang Ngai Province with his brothers in arms. While any one of them would die for each other, a vocal draftee in their squad constantly stirs up trouble. Ramsey, a former anti-war protestor and enemy sympathizer, believes they’re on the wrong side of the war. His stance angers his fellow soldiers and leaves them wary of him. When a routine recon mission uncovers an enemy tunnel, Carter suspects there’s more than meets the eye. This mission will leave Carter questioning the value of a soldier’s life and the madness of war.
