Ministry Time

I sat in church listening to a charismatic preacher proclaiming the Word of God in an enthusiastic fashion. I was fascinated by the amount of Bible quotations he reeled off in his one-hour message! I was surprised by the fact that though I was a new believer - having been in Christ for just two years - I could complete some of the scriptures he quoted.

Jesus is probably the most controversial person that has ever lived. You either love Him and what He stood for, or you hate Him, and all He stands for. What decision have you already made or are thinking about making? I think the next most controversial thing in history is the cross. Men have died for it, wars have been fought over it, and history cannot deny it. The symbol of that cross on that ugly hill has been woven into the fabric and the memory of the world.

Poet Susan Wheeler's interview is another in an ongoing series with Anglican and Christian poets. Professor Wheeler is director of Princeton University's creative writing department (Lewis Center for the Arts) in New Jersey. The students in the class immediately spoke of her personal relationship with Jesus. She was found out. She had a personal relationship with Jesus, and [it was] sort of thrilling.
