Missionary Biography

In early November 1834, an aristocratic young couple from Savannah and South Carolina sailed from New York and began a seventeen-year odyssey in West Africa. Leighton and Jane Wilson sailed along what was for them an exotic coastline, visited cities and villages, and sometimes ventured up great rivers and followed ancient paths.

He contemplated suicide as a boy when he developed a debilitating disease. He was constantly hounded and hunted which forced him into hiding for months at a time. He was arrested and beaten severely. He was kidnapped by one of the most dangerous cults in the world. This is the true story of Brother Shen, one of the most significant Christian leaders in the world today as the head of China Gospel Fellowship. It is his story in his words.

Clarence Larkin was born October 28, 1850, in Chester, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He was converted to Christ at the age of 19. He was a mechanical engineer, teacher, and manufacturer by trade. In 1884, at the age of 34, he became an ordained Baptist minister.
