Given their stellar legacy, it is little surprise that ANZAC soldiers were used by the British Empire for the several decades, most notably in World War II, ensuring that even after the British Empire declined, the Australian and New Zealand troops’ contributions to the Commonwealth remain a source of pride. 

These days, it appears that there is always a trendy ingredient capturing everyone's attention. At present, activated charcoal has taken the spotlight and can be found in various beauty products, health supplements, and even food items. Back in the early 20th century, radium, a naturally occurring metal with an atomic number of 88 and symbol RA on the periodic table, was the new and exotic substance. This ingredient found its way into toothpaste, beauty creams, lotions, corsets, watches, and even water.

In 1932, America faced an economic crisis even more severe than the one it has been experiencing recently. The issue then, as now, was how to address it. When President Franklin Roosevelt came into office, he faced more economic problems than any president since has ever faced, but he came equipped with unique and creative solutions to them.

The deciding battle of the War of 1812, the Battle of New Orleans, was won by the Americans on January 8, 1815, a few scant weeks after the British and American negotiators signed the Treaty of Ghent that ended the war, at least on paper. Assessed from that perspective, it might be regarded as an unnecessary battle of no importance, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Chaplains of ANZAC: New Zealand's Fallen Chaplains of the Great War tells the story of seven New Zealand Expeditionary Force chaplains who served and died during the Great War. The beautiful collection of stories in this book tell the oft-overlooked tales of the chaplains who left New Zealand and served their god, king and country on foreign fields of battle. In all, over 140 chaplains served as part of the NZEF. This book contains the stories of seven of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.

On the 14th of August 1941, a Polish monk named Maximilian Maria Kolbe was murdered in Auschwitz. Kolbe's life had been remarkable. Fiercely intelligent and driven, he founded a movement of Catholicism and spent several years in Nagasaki, ministering to the 'hidden Christians' who had emerged after centuries of oppression. A Polish nationalist as well as a monk, he gave sanctuary to fleeing refugees and his death was no less remarkable: he volunteered to die, saving the life of a fellow prisoner. It was an act that profoundly transformed the lives of two Japanese men.
