Political Philosophy

Once in a century or two, a new political theory is formulated to explain current events and offer solutions for the greater good. Past theories included the Philosopher King, Chinese Dynastic Rule, Feudalism, Capitalism, Socialism, Rightest Movements, and the New Left. With the fast spread of digital technology, the source of political power today lies in the democratization of knowledge, along with being the first to develop and exploit new systems. The instantaneous is the imperative. The unstable is now the new stability.

War, violence, and the disruption of social orders are critical areas of focus in mimetic theory, and a mimetic perspective applied to the study of politics illuminates social processes and phenomena over and beyond typical explanations offered by mainstream political science. Unlike traditional political science ontology, the mimetic perspective highlights neither individuals nor groups, but “doubles,” or “mimetic twins.”

Human rights capture what people need to live minimally decent lives. Recognized dimensions of this minimum include physical security, due process, political participation, and freedom of movement, speech, and belief, as well as subsistence, shelter, health, education, culture, and community. Far less attention has been paid to the interpersonal, social dimensions of a minimally decent life.
