In an effort to improve her health and possibly find a man, her mother sent her to live with her aunt over the summer period and at once caused upset when a man showed interest in her - the same man her cousin wished to court. In a small Virginia town outside a mysterious government facility, four homeschooled teenagers investigate a series of murders and other crimes while wrestling with challenges of faith, family, and the transition from childhood to adulthood.
