Inizia in questo modo la premessa di Giacomo Leopardi, che nel 1825 tradusse "L'Enchiridion" - che significa: oggetto che si tiene in mano - conosciuto come "Manuale di Epitteto".Si tratta di un insieme di regole filosofiche, etiche e stoiche, messe insieme attorno all'anno 100 d.C.

Dem Angeklagten stand nach dem Gesetz das Recht zu, eine andere Strafe zu fordern, gleichzeitig aber seine Schuld anzuerkennen.
