En Apología de Sócrates, Platón da una versión del discurso que Sócrates pronunció como defensa, ante los tribunales atenienses, en el juicio en el que se le acusó de corromper a la juventud y no creer en los dioses de la polis. Aunque su datación exacta es incierta, el texto, por su temática, pertenece al ciclo platónico de las primeras obras llamadas Socráticas, que Platón escribió en su juventud, e incluso se piensa que es su primera obra. ​La Apología se divide en tres partes.

Crito is a dialogue that was written by the ancient Greek philosopher Plato. It depicts a conversation between Socrates and his wealthy friend Crito of Alopece regarding justice, injustice, and the appropriate response to injustice after Socrates's imprisonment, which is chronicled in the Apology. In Crito, Socrates believes injustice may not be answered with injustice, personifies the Laws of Athens to prove this, and refuses Crito's offer to finance his escape from prison. The dialogue contains an ancient statement of the social contract theory of government.

Scaevola, vieillard et augure, rapporte à Cicéron une conversation tenue avec Laelius et Fannius sur l'amitié. Cicéron écrit alors un traité où se mêlent dialogues et récits sur le sens que doit avoir l'amitié, et la conduite qu'elle dicte aux hommes qui se réclament d'elle.
