85 A.D. The Roman Empire expanded its conquered territories north to the Danube River. One kingdom is still a serious threat – the third most powerful military power in Europe and the richest nation in the region. That nation is Dacia, led by its young and brilliant military leader King Decebal.

The year AD 105. King Decebal of Dacia stubbornly defends the freedom of his people and continues to defy the rule of the Roman Empire. Emperor Trajan marches north again to invade Dacia with the largest army in the history of Rome. Their legendary personal and military conflicts reach a dramatic climax beneath the walls of Sarmizegetusa, the holy city of Dacia and the most formidable mountain fortress of the ancient world.

Hannibal Barca moved through the countryside burning, looting, and attracting recruits and supplies from disgruntled city residents and tribesmen. Cornelius Scipio remained with the forward Legions, taking any position available. It spoke well of his loyalty, but his actions hid a deeper secret. Cornelius feared the Scipio men would be accused of being cowards. Jace Kasia had no family but had a goal to be recognized as a Cretan archer.
