Écrit en 1886, "La Mort d'Ivan Ilitch" est un récit emblématique de l'œuvre de Léon Tolstoï. Yuri Bezmenov (1939-January 5, 1993) was a Soviet journalist for RIA Novosti and a former KGB informant who defected to Canada in 1971. After being assigned to a station in India, Bezmenov eventually grew to love the people and the culture of India. At the same time, he began to resent the KGB-sanctioned repression of intellectuals who dissented from Moscow's policies and he decided to defect to the West. Bezmenov is best remembered for his anti-communist lectures and books published in the 1980s under the alias of Tomas David Schuman.

In 1851 Leo Tolstoy enlisted in the Russian army and was sent to the Caucasus to help defeat the Chechens. During this war a great Avar chieftain, Hadji Murád, broke with the Chechen leader Shamil and fled to the Russians for safety. Months later, while attempting to rescue his family from Shamil’s prison, Hadji Murád was pursued by those he had betrayed and, after fighting the most heroic battle of his life, was killed.

Повести, составившие знаменитую трилогию, были написаны Львом Николаевичем Толстым в 1852 - 1856 годах и впервые опубликованы в журнале "Современник". В замысел молодого прозаика (а в год создания "Детства" юнкеру Толстому исполнилось двадцать четыре) входило еще одно произведение - "Молодость", но эту повесть он так и не написал.

Dostoïevski nous fait vivre le quotidien d'une maison de force sibérienne au XIXe siècle. Dans cette fiction fortement empreinte de réalisme, l'auteur puise largement dans ses souvenirs de bagnard, condamné à quatre ans de travaux forcés en 1849.

Идиот — произведение классика русской литературы и одного из лучших романистов мирового уровня Ф. М. Достоевского (1821–1881). Автор преследовал цель создать образ "положительно прекрасного человека". В князе Мышкине черты Иисуса Христа получили бытовое преломление, но в жестоком окружающем его мире с его "законом всеобщего взаимного пожирания" Мышкин не в силах что-либо изменить. Saint-Pétersbourg, un fonctionnaire devenu petit rentier, s'adonne à une introspection à l'adresse d'interlocuteurs muets. Bavard inoffensif ou pervers déroutant, il explore ses propres petitesses, se décrit tour à tour comme vil, malade et méchant puis se reprend, s'absout, visite son passé. Enlisé dans l'inaction, l'oisiveté l'entraîne vers des sentiments amers envers ses semblables, sa conscience l'accable mais il avance en forcené solitaire.
