Shapley was a prodigious astronomer who completed significant work on globular clusters, Cepheid variables, as well as key aspects of cosmology and stellar astronomy, including nebular and stellar spectroscopy and photometry.

Then when the V'kit'no'sat returned and began annihilating Earth's interstellar empire starting with its capitol, Paul was there fighting a stalling retreat while Star Force evacuated as many people as possible, losing system after system as they were pushed further out into the galactic rim.

Changes with the Uriti alter the dynamics of the war against the V'kit'no'sat...and send shockwaves from the galactic rim to Itaru.

The fracturing of the V'kit'no'sat Empire has now come to fruition, but the full-fledged civil war has not resulted. With the depth of experience and knowledge the dinosaur races have accumulated over the millennia, they know the destructive cost that such devastation would bring, and a conservative warfare methodology breaks out wherein the fighting is over territory while trying to spare lives and as much equipment as possible, so not to weaken the overall empire.
