After suffering a traumatic head injury while playing softball, 14-year-old Deidre “Dee-Dee” Olsen is alarmed and confused when she sees unfamiliar people that no one else can see and initially dismisses her condition as a side effect of her injury. But when she sees and communicates with her deceased father, Dee-Dee realizes that the people she is seeing are the spirits of the departed.

The National Council of the Arts sponsored a competition. Composers from all over the world entered their compositions of an original operetta. The composer expected to win, Mancini, was murdered. The Mancini case has baffled the homicide division of the Kansas City police department for the past year. Detective Mark Johnson gets an anonymous tip and is hopeful that he can finally solve it.
