Fatherless and as good as motherless, Messiah "Mash" Bankfield must shake his nagging religion from his conscious if he wants to level up in a city centered around the '90s drug boom, twisted sexual exploitation, hardcore hip hop, and deep ghetto philosophy. Even if it requires hustling the same stuff that turned his mother into a dope fiend or taking out the big homies who showed him love, some things just must be. Shaped by the unsavory lifestyle of his sugar-daddy seeking sister and haunted by the spirit of his deceased grandmother, Mash sinks deeper into the darkness.

A young man named James had dreams of becoming an NFL player until life took a tragic turn and forced his world into ruins. In today’s society, some young men and women are forced to make choices they should not have to. The exposure of death, drugs, sex, corruption, and police brutality are becoming more the norm in Black and Brown communities across the country, causing a hindrance in our economic growth.

Eleven-year-old Renee Jenkins is a vivacious, bright girl who is unfortunately a member of the notorious, dysfunctional Jenkins clan living in a Miami neighborhood where it is not unusual to hold a nine-millimeter Glock pistol while answering the door and where little girls like Renee shop for heroin for their mothers. As she maneuvers her way through the asphalt jungle of Miami's dangerous Overtown section, Renee bravely attempts to find happiness amid a world consumed with death, despair, drugs, and pain.
