"Le 2e livre des Rois" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament classé parmi "Les livres des Prophètes" dans la tradition juive et dans les livres historiques dans le christianisme. Il suit "Le 1er livre des Rois", avec lequel il constituait, à l'origine un seul livre. Depuis le règne d'Ochozias, roi d'Israël, jusqu'à la chute du royaume de Juda, il présente avec plus ou moins de détails chacun des rois d'Israël et de Juda, deux royaumes condamnés par la justice divine après leur rejet des commandements divins.

"Le 1er livre des Chroniques" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. Dans le canon hébreu originel, le 1er et le 2e livres des Chroniques étaient assemblés dans un ouvrage, "Les livres des Chroniques". Une chronique (du mot grec chronicon) signifie un recueil de faits rapportés dans l'ordre de leur succession dans le temps. "Chroniques 1" retrace les événements de la Création du monde à la royauté de David.

L'auteur de cette épître et de la suivante ne donne pas son nom mais se nomme l'"Ancien" qui est à considérer comme une figure importante de l'école johannique et dont l'assimilation parfois propose à Jean le Presbytre relève de la conjecture.

La "1ère épître de Pierre" est un livre du Nouveau Testament rédigé en grec. L'auteur s'identifie dans l'incipit comme "Pierre, apôtre de Jésus-Christ". L'épître, adressée aux communautés chrétiennes d'Asie Mineure, est écrite de "Babylone ".
