"Le livre de Baruch" est le nom d'un livre de l'Ancien Testament. Il fait partie des livres prophétiques, avec "Isaïe", "Jérémie", "Daniel", "Ézéchiel", le "Livre des Lamentations" et "Les douze petits prophètes". Les spécialistes suggèrent qu'il fut écrit peu de temps après la période des Maccabées. Il comporte des prophéties, publiées à Babylone, dans lesquelles on trouve une éloquence qui enthousiasmait La Fontaine.

"Le livre de Ruth" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament, et classé parmi les livres des Ketouvim (Écrits) dans la tradition juive. Il est généralement lu lors de la fête de Chavouot. L'histoire de Ruth se déroule à l'époque où les Juges dirigeaient le peuple d'Israël. Il s'agit de montrer comment une femme étrangère est non seulement entrée dans le peuple d'Israël mais est devenue l'ancêtre du roi David. Le récit met l'accent sur la loyauté exemplaire de la Moabite Ruth.

"Le livre de Jérémie" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament, écrit selon la tradition juive et chrétienne par le prophète Jérémie. Sa rédaction commence avant la destruction de Jérusalem par les Babyloniens car il était déjà répandu et utilisé par les Juifs durant leur exil à Babylone. La quatrième année de Joachim correspond à 605/604 av. J.-C. ; c'est-à-dire au moment où la bataille de Karkemish fait basculer le Moyen-Orient de la domination égyptienne à celle de Babylone.

"Le Siracide", appelé aussi "l'Ecclésiastique" ou encore "La Sagesse de Ben Sira", est l'un des livres de l'Ancien Testament écrit vers 200 av. J.-C. "Le Siracide" tient son nom de son auteur, Jésus Ben Sira. L'ouvrage est un mélange de deux genres littéraires : tantôt des "proverbes", tantôt des développements structurés qui proposent des réflexions sur un sujet. Il s'agit toujours de la "Sagesse", représentée comme une personnification de la Sagesse divine.

"Le livre d'Esdras" (ou Ezra) est un livre de la Bible hébraïque et de l'Ancien Testament. Les chapitres 1 à 6 du 3e livre d'Esdras décrivent le décret de Cyrus en 537 av. J.-C. et le retour des Juifs sous Zorobabel. Dans les chapitres 7 à 10, qui se déroulent 60 à 80 ans plus tard, Esdras va à Jérusalem. Avec ses compagnons, il jeûne et prie pour obtenir protection. À Jérusalem, ils apprennent que de nombreux Juifs ont épousé des étrangères. Considérant qu'ils se sont ainsi souillés, Esdras prie pour eux et les convainc de renvoyer femmes et enfants.

"Le 2e livre des Chroniques" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. Il suit "Le 1er livre des Chroniques", qui retrace l'histoire du monde de la Création à la royauté de David. À l'origine ces deux livres n'en formaient qu'un, appelé "Livres des Chroniques", mais ils ont été divisés probablement pour des raisons d'encombrement.

"Le 1er livre des Chroniques" est un livre de l'Ancien Testament. Dans le canon hébreu originel, le 1er et le 2e livres des Chroniques étaient assemblés dans un ouvrage, "Les livres des Chroniques". Une chronique (du mot grec chronicon) signifie un recueil de faits rapportés dans l'ordre de leur succession dans le temps. "Chroniques 1" retrace les événements de la Création du monde à la royauté de David.

"Le Livre des Juges" est l'un des livres de l'Ancien Testament pour les chrétiens. Il raconte la période de l'histoire des Hébreux entre la conquête du Pays de Canaan (rapportée dans "Le livre de Josué") et l'apparition de la royauté. À cette époque (vers -1150-1130), c'est sous la pression d'un danger et sur un mode défensif que les tribus d'Israël mettent à leur tête un chef : c'est l'époque des Juges.

"Le livre de Josué" est le premier livre historique de l'Ancien Testament chrétien et le premier livre des Prophètes dans la Bible hébraïque. Il fait suite au Pentateuque, qui se termine par la mort de Moïse aux portes du pays de Canaan. Le livre relate la conquête du pays promis sous la direction de Josué, et il porte son nom parce qu'il en est le personnage principal, et non l'auteur. Selon la tradition juive, il fut écrit par Jérémie, lequel puisa dans des documents anciens qui dateraient du Xe siècle av. J.-C.
