For many Christians reading the Old Testament, trying to understand Israel's prophets is like listening to just one side of a phone conversation—you only get half the idea of it. The books of the Bible were written at different times by different authors over a period of approximately 1,500 years from around 1400 BC through 90 AD. The Old Testament was written in Biblical Hebrew excluding the books written during "the Chaldean captivity", such as Daniel and Ezra, which were written in "Biblical Aramaic" during the "Chaldean captivity". Many of the books of the Old Testament bear the names of the prophets who authored them. Moses compiled the earlier parts of Genesis and directly authored the remaining portion.

Luke’s Gospel reveals God among men in his saving grace given to fallen mankind. Its purpose is to present the Savior as a genuine, normal, and perfect man. It gives a complete genealogy of the man Jesus, from his parents back to Adam, the first generation of mankind, and shows that he is a genuine descendant of man–a son of man.

Most historians agree that John Mark is the author of this account of the good news and it may have been one of the first Gospels written. What also distinguishes this book among the other Gospels is the emphasis of the suffering of Yeshua. This could have been due to the fact that during the time in history around 65 AD, Christians in Rome were experiencing great persecution. Some believe that Mark was attempting to emphasize Yeshua’s suffering in order to bring comfort and encouragement to the Church which was suffering as a whole.
