Having been a true-crime buff most of my adult life, I have seen my share of dumb criminals. Then again, what criminal isn't dumb? Whether you have the IQ of a rocket scientist or the IQ of a common housefly, one fact still remains the same: Choosing to be a criminal is dumb. But...some criminals really are a lot dumber than others.... In all honesty? I don't think you could get any dumber than the criminals listed in the following stories. Although the 1932 kidnapping of aviator Charles Lindbergh’s baby was a worldwide sensation, it was only one of an estimated 3,000 ransom kidnappings that occurred in the United States that year. The epidemic hit America during the Great Depression and the last days of Prohibition as criminal gangs turned kidnapping into the highly lucrative “snatch racket". Wealthy families and celebrities purchased kidnap insurance, hired armed chauffeurs and bodyguards, and carried loaded handguns. Some sent their children to school or summer camp in Europe to get them out of harm’s way.
