True Light

In the summer of 1961, a wall of barbed wire goes up quickly in the dead of night, officially dividing Berlin. Luisa Voigt lives in West Berlin, but her grandmother lives across the border and is now trapped inside the newly isolated communist country of East Germany. Desperate to rescue her grandmother and aware of the many others whose families have been divided, Luisa joins a secret spy network, risking her life to help bring others through a makeshift underground tunnel to West Germany. Their work is dangerous, and not everyone will successfully escape or live to see freedom.

In 1880, Leonidas S. LaPrade disappeared from his rural Robertson County, Tennessee, home near Adams. The search lasted for several days, and when the body was found concealed in a sinkhole, it was obvious he had been hideously tortured and murdered. Based on a true event, this murder and the subsequent search, arrest, trial, and lynching of the alleged perpetrators made headlines the world over.

This narrative of prison life differs from all others that I have seen, in that it is careful to put the best possible construction upon the treatment of Union prisoners by the Confederates, and to state and emphasize kindnesses and courtesies received by us from them. For the accuracy of the facts stated, I am indebted to a diary kept from day to day during the whole of my imprisonment and to the best obtainable records. The exact language of conversations cannot, of course, always be remembered, but I aim always to give correctly the substance.
