Gary Linderer volunteered for the Army, then volunteered for Airborne training. When he reached Vietnam in 1968, he was assigned to the famous "Screaming Eagles," the 101st Airborne Division. After two years of college he couldn't afford to continue, so he was forced to relinquish his student deferment and enter the draft.
