ولد شارل قرم عام 1894, والده داود القرم, رسّام عُرف بلوحاته ذات الطابع الديني المسيحي. درس لدى الآباء اليسوعيين, وانصرف مبكراً الى التجارة فتأتت له منها ثروة طائلة في حقبة قصيرة من الزمن، لكن دوّامة التجارة وجاذبية المال لم تحولا بينه وبين عالم الأدب الذي أظهر ميلاً شديداً إليه وهو لا يزال على مقاعد الدراسة.
