科学者を目指す少年、ヴィクター・フランケンシュタインが主人公で、死んだ人間に生命を吹き込む実験を試みる。
彼は、母を亡くした経験から、研究を進めていけば悲しい思いをしなくて済むと考えたのだ。
研究は成功し、知性と体力を兼ね備えた人造人間を作り出したものの、それはおぞましい姿の怪物だった。
あまりの恐ろしさに、その怪物を放置したまま家族のいるジュネーヴに逃げ帰ってしまうフランケンシュタイン。
自分を作り出した張本人に見捨てられ、その容姿から人間に拒否され孤独な日々を送る怪物。
いつしか怪物は、自分の創造主であるフランケンシュタインに復讐を誓うようになるのだった。
