語り手にとってトマトは、男たちとの交際の記憶を幼時に齧った折の青ぐささと共に甦らせる不思議な存在だ。学生時代、初めてキスし、交わった男は農業大学の研究生。アステカ族が住む地域でトマトの原種を育成研究するため、「私」のもとを去り、メキシコへ渡った。一個のトマトをベッドに残して……。
