ある山国の美しい湖をはさんで、おたあちゃんとおきいちゃんという仲の良い女の子たちが住んでいました。２人はともに９歳で、容姿もそっくりで双子のようでした。ただ、おたあちゃんの家は大金持ちで、おきいちゃんの家はとても貧しかったのです。そんな２人がある時、仲違いをしてしまいます。そして二度と会わなくなりましたが…。この作品は雨情が多くの童謡の詩を書き綴っていた当時のもの（大正10年５月「東京朝日新聞夕刊」に掲載）。童謡が挿入された童話の世界を、芳本美代子さんが優しく楽しく語ります。
