Publisher's Summary

The year is 2312. Scientific and technological advances have opened gateways to an extraordinary future. Earth is no longer humanity's only home; new habitats have been created throughout the solar system on moons, planets, and in between. But in this year, 2312, a sequence of events will force humanity to confront its past, its present, and its future.

The first event takes place on Mercury, on the city of Terminator, itself a miracle of engineering on an unprecedented scale. It is an unexpected death, but one that might have been foreseen. For Swan Er Hong, it is an event that will change her life. Swan was once a woman who designed worlds. Now she will be led into a plot to destroy them.

Imaginative story; terrible narration

The story was okay, and I never mind having some hard science to get through, but the dives into semantics was a bit much. More importantly, however, every character is narrated with the same choppy, stilted voice. They all come off as being a bit robotic and socially stunted. The protagonist, Swan, is an odd person who swings from being totally weird to highly analytical. While I like complex characters, I'm not sure she is believable.

The story itself has quite a narrow focus and slow moving, with lots of sidelines into extremely interesting micro-worlds. I suspect that if the narration allowed the characters to become more fully realized, it would be a much better book.

worst voice performance ive ever heard

The title sums up my thoughts.
The voice acting is truly terrible and extremely hard to listen to. i couldnt even make it an hour into my second attempt at listening to this book.
it sucks especially hard because the story is so great. How does something this bad get green lit by audible?
