当時の演劇界では、舞台上での「舌戦」が大人気で、この『から騒ぎ』も大入り満員だった模様。そしてこの「舌戦」は陰湿なものというより、騙し欺されの知的スポーツとして受け入れられている。言い合いは「本心」ではない、という前提がこの作品が恋物語として成立する背景である。また同時に聞き耳（立ち聞き・盗み聞き）も人気劇の要素として、舞台上の演出として、非常に効果的である。当の本人たちはわからないが、観客からは企みの全てが見えている点の喜劇的効果は、現代の演劇の基礎ともなっている。
片や信じた真が嘘となったり、嘘から出た真で幸せになったりもする。
