About this listen

Jenna Wade has it all. A devoted husband. Two precocious children. A wildly successful mother. A beautiful house in one of the most desirable beach towns on the planet.

And seven hours to live.

Kidnappers grabbed Jenna in broad daylight, right in front of her children and their horrified classmates. Her family was issued an insane ransom demand: $25 million in cash and jewels, payable by the end of the school day, otherwise they’ll never see her again.

As Jenna’s mother scrambles to gather the money, detectives Mo Butler and George Ortega follow the trail of the kidnappers, which will lead them through a sordid landscape of jealous lovers, broken dreamers, and twisted schemers.

But every second counts, and there’s one thing Jenna Wade doesn’t have: very much time.

Between competing detectives and colorful locals, everyone has a theory about who is behind this unthinkable crime. But things may not be as they seem ... will you be able to solve the puzzle before time runs out?

From the world’s bestselling author comes a fast-paced, unpredictable thriller starring Emmy-winner Sarah Paulson (American Crime Story), Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Patina Miller (The Hunger Games), Mel Rodriguez (Better Call Saul), and more in this year's standout performances.

Please note: This audio drama is for mature audiences only. It contains violence and explicit language. Discretion is advised.

Just okay

Not the author’s best work - just sort of meh. Plot is okay but characters are quite one-dimensional.

Short and okay

Very short listen. Voice actors did a great job. However the ending felt very sudden.

Moderately Overproduced Screenplay

This Duane Swierczynski offering (released under the James Patterson penumbra) was clearly written with a film presentation in mind. He includes overdubbed commentary with scene shifts - and tries to incorporate setting and description into the dialogue - but also includes action-heavy events that scream for a set director. The plotting - about the kidnapping of a "Real Housewives Of.. wherever" clone - is impressive (competing investigator tandems squabbling over jurisdiction and pursuing separate leads is unique & works well). It's just that the format isn't right.

As to presentation: Audible Originals Inc. populated the project nicely with an admirable full cast.. but also overmodulated telephone dialogue and inserted street noises/children screaming/etc during the "bang-ahh!!-bang" action sequences.

Altogether, '7 Hours To Die' wasn't a crazy way to spend a couple of hours. It's a 6/10-star offering that I appreciated finding on the 'Plus' menu. If they ask for a Credit, better options beckon.

Story line was weak in the possibility scale

I heard that this author was really good but I was not impressed much. That bar must be pretty sound proof if in the middle of a school day, 4 people can be shot several times inside and out side and no one hears anything?? Acting was great but the sound people should not have had typewriter sounds in a police station unless this was decades ago. Since the police car had a locator that does not seem likely. Take away those issues and the story would have been pretty good.

Entertaining but somewhat predictable

Great cast, good production. I love these short stories that are intense and wrap up quickly; they fit perfectly in my daily routine. The story here is one that you could have guessed from a mile away with a few improbabilities, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of listening to it.
