About this listen

We all long to find a time when we can escape the daily grind and find a hideaway where we won’t be disturbed. We may have projects to complete or rest to enjoy, but the choice of that location is critical. Algernon Blackwood provides a short story of just such a man who is alone in a cottage on a Canadian island. He should have picked a better location, but then this memorable story wouldn’t exist. Narrated by Glenn Hascall.

Haunting and Mysterious

I've loved this short story by Algernon Blackwood for years. First read it at age 13 or so, shortly before moving to live in the Great Lakes area of Ontario, near where the story is set. The narrator does an excellent reading, but Blackwood was British, and a British narrator would have increased my enjoyment from 99 to 100%.
