About this listen

Fleeing a troubled past, Sarah Faust has found the perfect place to begin a new life. Tucked away on a charming side street and surrounded by lush grounds, the neglected 300-year-old townhouse in the port city of Charleston offers a refuge and a place to start over. But all is not as it seems at Five Rue Lane, and she soon finds that her new house harbors something that has been there for a very long time. Something that refuses to stay buried. In A Haunting, L. I. Albemont brings us parallel tales of old and modern horror, weaving colonial era events into a modern ghost story you won't soon forget.

Okay

The plot was good, but the pace was very slow. The characters were interesting and likable, but were left a little unresolved. This book was not particularly scary and could have played up thoes elements much more.

A good story but a lacklustre ending

First, the positives. The narrator does a great job, the characters are intriguing, and for most of the story the pacing does a good job.
Sadly all of that is wiped away by the ending. Without spoilers- there are characters that just felt thrown as a random (and pointless) plot device and a resolution that makes me feel like the author just didn't know what to do with everything and so just ended it in a few pages.
It was so abrupt, I actually check to see if maybe I had a faulty download and had skipped over a section. (I had not)

Sad, because up to that point this would have gone into the 'keep to read again' collection.

Excellent presentation

Definitely a different unanticipated ending. Characters you can love and disdain at the same time. Excellent read.

Get past the narrator

I love a good horror story but the narrator had a much too cheery voice which is unfortunate because many scenes could have been told in a much ‘creepier’ tone and voice. Because of that the horror aspect of this story was lost on me.
