Publisher's Summary
It was the perfect vacation fling. And then a body showed up.
Jane Austen fan Amelia Bennett sneaks away from a dull tour of an English country manor, only to run into a man more dashing than Mr. Darcy himself. About to lose his ancestral home to family debts, charming aristocrat Tom Calder invites his American guest to join him in drinking his way through the estate’s priceless wine collection. But when they wake in his bed the next morning, they’re convinced that in their drunken haze they witnessed a murder.
Problem is, the body has vanished and no one believes them—except the shadowy figures stalking them through the estate's empty halls and lonely woodlands. On the run for their lives, Amelia and Tom must piece together their shifting memories and a string of baffling clues to expose the crime—while navigating their morning-after awkwardness and the undeniable sparks between them. As their unexpected bond deepens, they begin to wonder if their own love story could be one for the ages—if they manage to survive at all.

Clever Astute Fun Wise Unexpected
I stumbled upon this book and I am so grateful I did. The narration was really enjoyable and the story was unexpected, romantic and fun. Some of the advice that is imparted to the reader through the story is so wise and really makes you think about how you live your life and what is important. About how the human defaults of fight or flight affect our lives, and how our decisions are influenced. My review sounds heavy when I say this, but this book is a ray of sunshine, a romance, a murder mystery, a philosophy lesson and an escape. I LOVED THIS BOOK! Although Jane Austin is the reason the main character arrives in the story, I think Brynn Kelly has written a much better story than any Austin book I have read.

Rambles too much
They are hiding and fearful for their lives but carry on long rambling conversations. Why not just stand up and yell "Here we are"

for the romantic notions that lay dormant
I am.not a romantic novel kinda girl. But this book encompasses a love story, life coaching, action, suspense, mystery and sparks pause the think about the fallacies we live by in dealing with difficulty. I almost wished there was a part 2 😀 The narrators were excellent. They totally had you immersed in the characters and the story. Was very well done by both of them!!! Great story telling. Maybe you pulled out a romance fan very begrudgingly🤷🏽😁

Couldn’t turn this off
Obsessed. I’m obsessed I want to listen to it all over again for the first time. A mystery that takes you back in time to live a Jane Austen fairy tale.

A Meld of Detective Intrigue and Romantic Tension
In the world of literature, where genres often maintain distinct boundaries, it's refreshing to stumble upon a narrative that seamlessly blends elements of detective mystery with the nuances of romance. Such is the case with this book, a captivating journey through suspense and affection.
One aspect of the story that struck me was the intriguing portrayal of the heroine's journey. That being said, there were moments where her behavior seemed oddly reminiscent of a certain popular series. The habit of chewing on her lips felt like a peculiar nod to a well-known reference, perhaps a subtle wink to fans of a certain "shades of grey." To me, it felt somewhat out of place, disrupting the story.
On the other hand, a war veteran choosing to utilize his last two rounds to "scare off" or "distract" a villain in a life-threatening situation raises an eyebrow at the practicality of such a choice. The subsequent description of the impact on the diamonds, once hailed as a clever ploy, left me questioning its feasibility once again. As a reader, I found myself pondering the fragility of diamonds, realizing that they are hardly suitable as makeshift pebbles for such a purpose.
Despite these minor quibbles, the book succeeds in crafting a narrative that keeps readers engaged from start to finish. The intertwining threads of mystery and romance weave a tapestry of intrigue, drawing readers deeper into its enigmatic world with each turn of the page. With its flawed yet endearing characters and a plot rife with twists and turns, this novel is sure to leave a lasting impression on fans of both genres.

Take it on its face.
It’s fluffy lit that references Austen and her contemporaries to prop up the story.
Solid 3/5 for not claiming to be something it’s not, while also serving as brain candy. 🍬
