About this listen

Grace Sinclair has been callously cast out of her home. And though taken in as an orphaned child by the vicar and his wife, her unsurpassed beauty makes it impossible for her to remain in the vicar’s household - with two daughters of their own about to enter Society, the vicar and his wife see Grace as nothing but competition. Thankfully, Grace’s estranged Aunt Bell has agreed to take her in to her home in London. But Grace soon learns her situation has just gotten much worse.

It takes only a moment’s acquaintance for Grace to ascertain that her aunt has married a detestable rake. And Aunt Bell, recognizing the danger of having her lovely niece too near her husband, gives Grace an ultimatum: The young woman has two weeks to find a man to marry, after which she will be turned out. With no experience in the art of attracting a husband, Grace quickly realizes that a worthy suitor might not be so easy to ensnare.

Cute

I was disappointed at first with the narrator American accent reading an English Regency novel, but she did use British accents when characters were speaking and her American accent for narrating. I liked it better this way, distinguished the story and was easy to follow.

the storyline was cute, but found the motivation behind the conflict of the main characters confusing and lack depth, but I still liked the story.

additionally, I did struggle a bit that alot of the main characters appeal was very wrapped up in her beauty, even her love interested seemed mostly motivated by her looks and found there actual connection not well rounded.

Baffled by the good reviews - gave up halfway

This book sounded like everything I would love from the description. Boy, was I mistaken!

Every single character is unlikeable:
-We've got the men who are all drooling over our super hot heroine (including her uncle).
-We've got Grace, who seems to have no real personality or morals that I could gauge. She is bashful and naive around men one moment, and the next she knows everyone wants to bed her and threatens one with a weapon. She is appalled at the unfairness and immorality of being used as a pawn, and then tries to use Nate as a pawn and repeatedly tries get him into compromising positions.
-We've got Nate, who I guess we're supposed to root for (?) who is "not like other guys" and doesn't play around and nobody can get him to settle down. He falls for Grace anyway despite her consistently trying to seduce him and him thinking that is disgusting. So if it isn't her morals and personality he is drawn to, why does he like her again and spend time with her? Oh right, she's hot.

It felt like every chapter was the same thing over and over again: they cross paths, she tries to compromise his integrity, he doesn't respect it but dang, she's cute!

I don't need or want perfect characters in a book (I love Jane Austen's Emma), but these characters are so inconsistent with no redeeming or interesting qualities.

it would maybe be a 2 star if I were reading the physical book, but just because I would be done it much quicker and wouldn't feel like I was wasting as much of my time.
