About this listen

Haile Selassie, born Tafari Makonnen on July 23, 1892, was Ethiopia's regent from 1916 to 1930 and Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. The heir to a dynasty that traced its origins to the 13th Century, and from there by tradition to King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, Haile Selassie is a prominent figure in Ethiopian and African history. To the Rastifari movement, which has a million adherents worldwide, he is considered to be the symbol of God incarnate. He died in 1975.©2008 Rick Sheridan (P)2008 Rick Sheridan World
