About this listen

I could save him, but he would ruin me.

The beast.

The creature that stalks the forbidden wood.

The dragon prince.

He has suffered a fate worse than death. We all have. A curse put upon us by the mad king.

We are a kingdom locked in time. Shifters unable to feel our animals. Stuck here by a deal between the late king and a demon who seeks our destruction.

The only one keeping this kingdom alive is Nyfain, the golden prince to a stolen throne. The last dragon shifter.

He's our hope.

He's my nightmare.

When he catches me trespassing in the forbidden wood, he doesn't punish me with death, as he's entitled.

He takes me, instead. Forces me back to the castle as his prisoner. Seeks to use me.

Apparently, I can save him. I can save the whole forgotten kingdom, locked away by the demon king's power.

But it would mean taming the monster beneath his skin. It would mean giving myself to him.

It would mean my ruin.

This is a dark and spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling featuring an anti-hero, a strong heroine, and a humorous supporting cast. This is an enemies-to-lovers and possible fated mates story suitable for 18+. It's the first of a trilogy, ending on a cliffhanger.

enjoyable & interesting story, the narrator did their best

the only issue I have is that the female narrator's interpretation of the lead males voice, is Batman. kind of irked me and was hard for me to "un-hear" it, once I noticed it lol. there are a couple interactions with characters who are drunk. the supposed "drunk" voice is cringe!!

Books 3&4 are worth getting through 1&2

Books 1&2 are sometimes fun, sometimes hilarious, often cringey. Lots of spice and some interesting plot. I did laugh out loud a lot thanks to one spectacular character. The series really tastes a step up when you get to books 3&4. The characters develop more depth and the plot gets significantly more interesting. Recommended the series if you want something fun, quite spicy, and some good laughs along the way.

I loved the entire book

I listened to the book so fast. Each character had their own personality and I loved it. She’s not a damsel in distress, they are equals.

Great story, wonderful characters

The main character is as snarky, funny and delightful as you could want. The dialogue is sharp and the side characters well developed.

The romance is definitely hot, and you can feel the attraction between them.

The story itself is a unique twist on “beauty and the beast” theme with plenty of mystery to keep you guessing. Its not too straightforward.

The performances is delightful and an easy listen. I particularly enjoy the castle butler. This is a really great audiobook- I cannot wait to get into #2 in the series!

Very slow story but I hear it gets better

I choose this book because of the spice level based on reviews but their relationship is slow going, the story is also very slow but I will keep going as I read the reviews that it gets better.

A dark and spicy Beauty and the Beast retelling

If you’re someone who enjoys dark fantasy, shapeshifters, snarky FMCs, enemies to lovers, and a loosely based retelling of Beauty and the Beast, this book is for you!

Finley is an intelligent, sassy, resourceful, FMC who gives zero f*cks and loves reading. I cracked up every time Finley talked to her “invisible audience”, especially once her inner voice starts making fun of her haha. I also loved how she is presented as a tall woman (6’0) but the author never describes her as masculine, undesirable, or (cringe) Amazonian. Finley becomes involved with the MMC, Nyfain, who is taller than her but doesn’t see her height as a challenge to his masculinity. As a tall, sassy woman myself, it’s a refreshing contrast to the usual petite FMCs in my opinion.

I felt that Nyfain was an extremely hard to read character, as he was hot one minute, cold the next, and then on his knees after that (spicy). However, as I read more, and the world building developed, I came to feel that this was intentional, especially in relation to the demon kings curse (thinking we will most likely learn more in the next book).

There is A LOT of spice and kinks in this book and I enjoyed the creativity that the spice itself plays in this book. Just ask Hadriel, the hilarious and mediocre butler. His character was a highlight of the book for me and I hope he continues to be in the other books in the series.

I did find the plot a little difficult to follow but since it’s the first book, I’m looking forward to learning more and getting deeper into the story (pun intended).

Took a lot of will power to finish.

Poorly wrote, seems like a less classy ACOTAR with a rushed story. Most the middle of the book is focused on weird kink sex, like furries and the same repetitive interaction between the main characters. I think they do the same sex act 3 times in a chapter and its predictable.
