About this listen

All Reia ever wanted was freedom.

Known as a harbinger of bad omens and blamed for Demons eating her family, Reia is shunned by her entire village. When the next offering is due and the monstrous Duskwalker is seen heading their way, her village offers her an impossible choice—be thrown into the prison cells or allow herself to be sacrificed to a faceless monster.

However, he is not what he seems. His skull face and glow eyes are ethereal, and she finds herself unwittingly enchanted by him.

All Orpheus ever wanted was a companion.

Each decade, in exchange for a protection ward from the Demons that terrorize the world, Orpheus takes a human offering to the Veil—the place he lives and the home of Demons. The brief companionship does little to ease his loneliness, and their lives were always, unfortunately, cut short.

He'd thought it was a hopeless endeavor, until he met her. She’s not afraid of him, and his insatiable desire deepens within every moment of her presence.

But will Orpheus be able to convince Reia to stay before she’s lost to him forever?

A burgeoning romance and my new obsession!

When I say that there us a clear distinction in my life before and after this series, I mean it. have never read a book of this size, and this quickly! Getting this audiobook right after reading it and listening to it really solidified just how well written, storied, layed out, and wonderful this story is. Wolfgang Miliken and Elise Hoffman were incredible choices for the performance and did unbelievablely phenomenal work bringing this to life!

Here for Wolfgang !

The story itself interested me enough to keep listening, but the female narrator just felt very juvenile to me, which took me out of the book. whenever it was Orpheus narrating, I found I thought the book was better and I was hooked, but the moment it switched to Reia I started doubting how I felt about it again. I just would have read the emotions and the reactions differently had it been in physical form and I wonder if I would've liked this book more had I read instead of listened.
Wolfgang's narration saved it for Me though and seeing he does the others has me considering listening to the next one.

Some of the story seemed rushed, and as it was very character driven, the world building felt a little lazy. Answers to problems were the "you just have to want it" variety which seems like a cop out. if you're going to have a novel this large, I'd think there'd be more thought given to these big issues they came across, but it felt like they were rushed over just to get back to fucking, haha.

Not the best, but not the worst! I think the story is there, enough, but I'm glad the female narrator changes.

Slow burn and great spice!

I love the slow burn between the characters. The MMC is so likeable and sweet but the spice was awesome!

Perfection

This book is one of my all time favourites and hearing it narrated so perfectly was the cherry on top! Wolfgang’s voice vibrates down into my soul, holy moly! I wasn’t too sure about Elise as Reia at first, but I was sold by the end.

Almost DNF

Warning: Not a human phallus, nor close to any stretch of the imagination. Kind of like a dog dick that comes out of his body. but with surrounding tentacles. Also he has no lips/face so they kiss by licking tongues. It was too strange to ignore. The rest of the story is enjoyable but there is a lot of weird smut to tolerate. Will not continue with the series.

Didn’t realize I would love monster smut as much as I do…

Fantastic narration. The spicy scenes were perfect and just descriptive enough to actually get a reaction out of me. The world building also pulled me right in. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and can’t wait to start the next ones. There are moments where the speech doesn’t quite seem to fit the setting /assumed time period but it was really just a small hiccup here and there. I’ve definitely got a few scenes bookmarked to listen too again and again. 🤭

Love isnt what you always expect

I really enjoyed the way this book was told. Honestly really enjoyed the antihero so much he makes my haert warm and seeing the pain he went throigh with all his humans was really sad. But the love between the two MC was beautiful especially since it really didnt feel like a normal coupling but I really enjoyed this book. Also absolutly love the narrators voices, some parts where a little weird for sound but over all was really good!

My new favourite book!

Excellent! Everything about it! I thought the cover was weird so I didn’t want to read it, a friend talked me into giving it a try and now I want to read it over and over! Great story, great characters, great world building!

Third Time Paying and Totally Worth It!

I love love love this book and this series! The reader dedication at the beginning really does say it all. I knew what I signed up for when I read this book the first time but I never knew how just much I would fall in love with the world and these characters. Orpheus is my favourite kind of male love interest and Reia is an absolute delight as a female lead. The book has light and dark moments and the story is captivating all the way through. I’ve been meaning to re read the book but now I get the joy of listening to it instead. I suggest this book to anyone and everyone who will listen 💕

My new fav monster romance book

The narrators performance, wow! 🤤
The world building and storyline are very interesting and imaginative. I loved the FMC and the MMC, she’s feisty and kind, he’s grumpy and head over heels in love. 🥰
