Then an FBI investigation into the firm’s connections to the Mafia plunges the straight and narrow attorney into a nightmare of terror and intrigue. It’s summer in Memphis. The sweat is sticking to Rudy Baylor’s shirt and creditors are nipping at his heels. Once he had aspirations of breezing through law school and punching his ticket to the good life. An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. Given the importance of what they do, and the controversies that often surround them, and the violent people they sometimes confront, it is remarkable that in the history of this country only four active federal judges have been murdered. Judge Raymond Fawcett has just become number five.... Nothing is as it seems and everything’s fair game in this wickedly clever new novel from John Grisham, the undisputed master of the legal thriller.

The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

More twists & turns than a den of snakes
And most of those snakes are of the more poisonous two legged variety. This is a good trial novel but also an excellent look at human nature. This book was very hard to put down. If you like twists in your plot, this is your book.

Love A TIME TO KILL
John Grisham is a master at writing great and masterful, legal challenging, mind provocative thinking, drawing you into to the story, not just as a reader, but he has you sitting and walking every step along the way.
It was a very deep look into South and their way of life, leaves you to wonder if this could happen today, if it did happen in 2020 would the outcome be the same.
I would recommend this book before you read any of the others in the Jake Bergans series.
Micheal Beck is masterful at bring all of John Grisham's books to life.

did not enjoy 😔
Thank goodness John Grisham changed his style. I really liked the other Jake Brigance books but this one with the constant use of the N word even by Jake was assaulting on my ears and heart. I just couldn't finish reading it and good thing I read the other Jake Brigance books first by accident because I would have never discover how good they were.

It was okay
I hear that the Sycamore Row is better. I'll move onto that story. This plot is very interesting, though i was lost partway through its development. The courtroom scene was interesting, through I wasn't entranced. Throughout, I heard an inconsistency in Beck's performance in that I couldn't tell which character was speaking. Based on the reviews that I've read, his performance has been better in the following books.
