About this listen
Growing up in a home where there is addiction or relationship trauma puts a child at great risk for long-term, post-traumatic stress effects that adversely compromise adult relationships. Best-selling author, psychologist, and psychodramatist Tian Dayton examines this trauma through an exploration of the way the brain and body process frightening or painful emotions and experiences in childhood. She shows how these traumas can become catalysts for unhealthy, self-medicating behaviors including drug and alcohol abuse, food issues, and sex, gambling, and shopping addictions.

Wonderful resource!
I learned a lot about myself and I feel as though my experience has been normalized which is giving me courage to finally seek out therapy after 30 years of suppressing my pain. Very grateful to the author for putting something like this together. It’s also based on peer reviewed studies!

A thorough dive into ACOA trauma
There's plenty of valuable information jammed into this book. The Brain Science was helpful as well as the explanations of how we think and operate and why. It covers the damage we studied and the damage we incur when we haven't found recovery. A good primer.
