Captivating Narrative

Gillian Jackson starts with an unlikely premise - a woman recognizing a sister missing since an abduction 14 years before (while shopping one day) - and weaves a well-paced tale of dedicated amateur investigation, a re-envigorated interest from an admirable LEO, and reunions & resolutions. Jackson relates the tale through the eyes of multiple involved characters (including the singleminded sister, the bereaved mother, the abducted girl herself - 'Grace Bryson/Jane Solomon' - and the police investigator - 'Detective Sergeant Jack Priestly', among others) in multiple timelines: around the abduction, during the uncovering of Grace's true identity, and post-reunion. With that many POVs, it could easily get confusing.. but Jackson handles it deftly.
The promised "Shocking Twist" ending is actually pretty anticlimactic, but is consistent and with an ongoing interesting plot.

The decision by Tantor Audio to employ two narrators (Shaun Grindell reading the DS Priestly segments & Rachael Beresford handling the female parts) doubtless helps keep the text organized, too. Both provide peerless diction, timbre, cadence, and tone. My only reservations are with limited voice repertoires and slightly slow timing (set playback speed at 1.15X for the most natural pacing).

I feel incredibly fortunate to have gotten this audiobook as a 'Plus' option.. because 'Abduction' rates 9 out of 10 stars. I wouldn't have tried it otherwise - and it would warrant a Credit for any fan of expository crime fiction.

Wonderful Book

I really enjoyed this book. The story was very good and the narration was great.
It started out a bit slow but once you get into it, it ended up being a truly lovely listen. Lots of really great material and you could not help wanting more.
The ending was so good and so profoundly unexpected and shocking.
I would recommend this book. It was a good listen.
Thank you Audibles for including it in my Plus Category.
