About this listen

Collected here are the first four books of the eight books, best-selling epic Adrian's Undead Diary.

The world crashed to pieces on June 23rd and Adrian Ring wasn't anywhere near ready for it. He had no guns, no food, no friends around, a cat that wanted to slip out the back of the condo and a girlfriend trapped in the heart of the city. This is the story of how he survived.

Book One: Dark Recollections: Beheading a zombie isn't easy in a world where you're more afraid of the living than the dead. Adrian Ring's simple life is thrown into chaos when the world is ripped apart by a plague of undead and legions of desperate survivors. Retreating to Auburn Lake Prep Academy, Adrian attempts to rescue friends and family on the way while dancing around his impending insanity over who and what he left behind, and evading maniac survivors. He saves his cat Otis, but shoots his mom. Pretty , all things considered. Of course, his sanity takes a hit as a result.

Real, flawed, and raw, Dark Recollections is Adrian's own story of how he survived after "That Day". Told through his eyes as he talks to his laptop, affectionately named "Mr. Journal", and through short stories that entwine with his tales that bring forth dark visions of a world being eaten alive by an unimaginable evil.

AUD is an eight part epic about a solitary, guilt stricken man that didn't think he deserved to live, but realizes very soon that he survived, and suffered for a reason.

This collection contains Dark Recollections, Alone No More, Midnight, and The Failed Coward, four full-length novels following the end of the world as witnessed by Adrian Ring.

loved it since day 1

I was there when AUD was a blog post. I have got to watch the story develop in real time. it was like magic back then.
I read every entry a few times over and was lit when the story made its way to paper back then audible. Almost done Omnibus 1 and can't wait for grab part 2

Different and enjoyable.

The omnibus (books 1 through 4) is surprisingly good. I have developed a love/hate relationship with the characters and the storyline is quite well done. My only complaint is that the language is brutal at times. But that won't stop me from purchasing more in this series as I am curious as to what Adrian will next share in his diary. Regarding narration, JA Foster does a great job bringing the characters to life.

Great Book Series

Story is predictable. But entertaining. I liked the journal approach to telling the story. Glad I used my monthly credit for this omnibus series.

Decent - for the genre

Action, gore, foul language, and a cliche soldier boy protagonist - who feels real enough that it works. story jumps around a bit - journal format. Laughed my ass off at the side story of Zack and his bro - 1/10th of the book and 3/4 of the fun.

worth it

great zombie books, good narration, great story if somewhat predictable and the Omnibus 8s the best value I ever got out of a credit

Hot Good Start But Gets Lost in The Weeds

This was recommended to me by a friend where we share an interest in Max Brooks work. Book. Not movie. Even Brooks hates the movie. But I gave it a shot. Pun intended.

Early story and character development is interesting. I think the author was trying to emulate that pattern set by Mr. Brooks. Multiple character voices and perspectives. I like that part.

As you get further in the chapters are just the protagonist talking at length about guns guns guns and rattling off model names for no reason except an American flex about being a prepper or veteran in iraq.iraq. I don't know or care who is carrying a 22, or an AK, or something from desert storm.

As a Canadian, frankly that doesn't really interest me. The author loses the protagonist and characters in a word salad of guns. All the time.

I am probably not the intended audience for all of that, so if you are not I would give it a hard pass. But it just comes off as meat head stuff that it is more important to talk about ammunition than character or story.
