ACA WSO acts as the central agency of the program, gathering and disseminating meeting information, creating and distributing literature, and providing information to the general public. The ACA Fellowship Text (commonly referred to as the Big Red Book or BRB) is a meeting book, steps book, traditions book, workbook, and group guide. The ACA Fellowship Text was anonymously written by ACA members and provides guidance on working the 12 -step ACA program, leading to recovery from the effects of growing up in an alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional family. ACA WSO has adapted AA's steps (with permission from AA) to address the effects of childhood trauma and neglect and offer hope to ACAs worldwide.

Story
The trauma and grief of growing up in an alcoholic or addicted family create a lifetime of baggage. If you grew up in an addicted family, the dysfunction that permeated every aspect of your childhood may have seemed "normal", and you may not even realize the level of affect alcohol still has on your adult life - whether or not you drink. If you are one of the millions of Adult Children of Alcoholics (ACOAs), the cost of your childhood pain can be unbearable. You may have learned how to "survive", but are you "living" your life?

Story
Step 1: You admit that you're powerless over your addiction. Now what? Twelve-step programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA) have helped countless people on the path to recovery. But many still feel that 12-step programs aren't for them: that the spiritual emphasis is too narrow, the modality too old-school, the setting too triggering, or the space too exclusive. Some struggle with an addict label that can eclipse the histories, traumas, and experiences that feed into addiction, or dismisses the effects of adverse experiences like trauma in the first place.

Life-changing!
My guess is the readers are volunteers, unpaid members of this healng 12 Step program. So I hesitate to criticize, but, hard to listen to.
The content, though, of this book continues to heal decades of unconscious pain for myself and many others.

Big Red Book Overviewed Wonderfully
By its very name, Big, this book can feel daunting to read in its entirety. But listened to, the themes become clear, the instructions fully outlined, and the caring in the program becomes apparent.
I listened to about 20 minutes a day. It seemed to go fast! Now that I have an overall perspective of the program, it seems simpler and more doable.
I highly recommend this audio book.

Great content, but struggled with one narrator’s reading style
I am very grateful that this book has an audio companion. However, I very much struggled with one of the narrator’s reading style as it felt as if the content was being shouted at me. This isn’t to deter anybody from the book because it is brilliant. Hoping that if I am not the only one it will be re-recorded at some future point.
There was also at least one blooper like outtake in it, a few things were read several times, and the chapters are not titled.
Overall it was great. Thank you.

book content is great; narrator is awful
i have trouble understanding the editor listening to this narrator and deciding that she's a good choice ... i've listened to it for 15 minutes and can't take anymore
i rarely write a bad review about anything, but please listen to the sample before purchasing ... there's no way i can listen to her voice any longer so it's a wasted purchase 😕
