About this listen

From the New York Times best-selling author of The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo comes an all-new audio production read by Julia Whelan, including a bonus conversation with Julia Whelan and Taylor Jenkins Reid, recorded exclusively for this edition.

When Lauren and Ryan’s marriage reaches the breaking point, they come up with an unconventional plan. They decide to take a year off in the hopes of finding a way to fall in love again. One year apart, and only one rule: they cannot contact each other. Aside from that, anything goes.

Lauren embarks on a journey of self-discovery, quickly finding that her friends and family have their own ideas about the meaning of marriage. These influences, as well as her own healing process and the challenges of living apart from Ryan, begin to change Lauren’s ideas about monogamy and marriage. She starts to question: When you can have romance without loyalty and commitment without marriage, when love and lust are no longer tied together, what do you value? What are you willing to fight for?

This is a love story about what happens when the love fades. It’s about staying in love, seizing love, forsaking love, and committing to love with everything you’ve got. And above all, After I Do is the story of a couple caught up in an old game—and searching for a new road to happily ever after.

I am so sad that I finished it, I wanted it to keep going!!

This book has all the feels. It deals with issues like death and divorce in arch an honest way and yet it is never depressing! It makes you laugh and cry. The relationships between Lauren and her sister and mom are great! I love all TJR’s novels but this is my new favorite!

Lots to think about

My relationship is the same length as Lauren & Ryan’s (11 years) so it gave me lots to think about in terms of my own situation. I liked all the different views on marriage from the various characters, and of course Julia Whelan does an amazing job on the voices. Really enjoyed this one!

Never Give Up!

First of all, I love Taylor oJenkins Reid’s novels and I think that the narrator, Julia Whelan is fantastic. I love listening to her.
I really enjoyed listening to this audio book. Besides the story of the main characters, Lauren and Ryan, there were many other pieces to the novel that could really be sub-stories in themselves.
The premise of the novel is that after being married for some time, Ryan and Lauren admit that they are not happy and decide to take a year apart from each other and then re-assess their marriage . We go along on their journeys, well mostly Lauren’s, as they learn things about themselves and things about each other.
Then there are the stories of Lauren’s family, her sister’s, her brother’s, her mother’s and her grandmother’s. They weave a web that binds them together, just as families can.
There are some surprises along the way, which is one of the things I love about her novels. Near the end, they each learn some important lessons. Never give up and the sun always rises the next day. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.
