About this listen
Eight years ago, the December Plague swept through the human population of Earth. The infected were driven mad by the disease, becoming violent and cannibalistic, killing even those closest to them without hesitation.
Six years ago, the tiny surviving community of immune humans found a cure, and the infected began to wake up and realize what they'd done...and what had been done to them.
Over time, society began to rebuild itself. Now, it is ready to judge those responsible for the Plague. Nella Rider, the court psychologist, and Frank Courtlen, a defense attorney, are trying to establish the truth. But more depends on it than they know. They race to find the answers they need before the fragile remains of humanity vanish for good.

Suspense galore, zombies and more
Glib title for the review, sorry, it rhymed, I couldn't resist.
Even though I'm pretty familiar with zombie books, I'm often leery about jumping into one. The trope of gore, misery, and suffering for its own sake can be tiring, so when something new is done with zombies, it gets my attention.
Yes, there's gore. You can't honestly deal with zombies in any serious manner without it. But things get interesting right out of the gate as freshly cured zombies regain sanity, and have to deal with the memories of what they've done. That alone could fuel the entire book, but it doesn't stop there. Covering up past crimes, handling new threats, and moving on after recovery are topics explored in this fractured world.
The suspense often had me split between wanting to proceed, and delaying going forward, dreading what might happen next. Now to sniff around and see how else what other dread Ms. Gould has spun...
