About this listen
From the best-selling author - the story of an award-winning comedian who decided to run for office and then discovered why award-winning comedians tend not to do that.
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it. It's a book about our deeply polarized, frequently depressing, occasionally inspiring political culture, written from inside the belly of the beast. In this candid personal memoir, the honorable gentleman from Minnesota takes his army of loyal fans along with him from Saturday Night Live to the campaign trail, inside the halls of Congress, and behind the scenes of some of the most dramatic and/or hilarious moments of his new career in politics.

Honesty is the best policy; just not in politics.
The book is very good! Highly recommended, especially the audiobook. Al’s voice gives the book more life and his style of humour more meaning.
What made Al so special is also he’s biggest problem in today’s politics. The “dehumourser” he talks about in the book is real and from the beginning being a comedian was considered a flaw. It sad what happened as he could of been a great president one day. Or the way things are going still can be.

Funny and insightful
Great book that straddles the line between humor and seriousness, giving tongue in cheek insight in to life in a political campaign and the protocol of senate decorum and more. A strong defense of the progressive cause.

Funny and Informative
Loved this. Franken is a great narrator, and, it sounds like, a great senator. Very funny, and packed with info and context. Could not recommend it more.
