Publisher's Summary
Here is a thrilling, uplifting story of true-life heroism unequaled since the publication of Anne Frank’s diary - a story that the young must hear and their elders must remember. Take Alicia’s hand - and follow.
Her name is Alicia. She was 13 when she began saving the lives of people she did not know - while fleeing the Nazis through war-ravaged Poland.
Her family cruelly wrenched from her, Alicia rescued other Jews from the Gestapo, led them to safe hideouts, and lent them her courage and hope. Even the sight of her mother’s brutal murder could not quash this remarkable child’s faith in human goodness - or her determination to prevail against overwhelming odds.
After the war, Alicia continued to risk her life, leading Polish Jews on an underground route to freedom in Palestine. She swore on her brother’s grave that if she survived, she would speak for her silenced family. This book is the eloquent fulfillment of that oath.

A Shocking Story of Survival
I've listened twice now to Alicia's story and I know I will again. There were moments of mercy, but such ugly hate.
How people can be so inhuman is monstrous.
It takes a lot strength to relive hell in hopes of preventing it from happening again.

Important Listening
This personal account of survival is beautifully narrated. I felt like I was listening to a friend. The heart wrenching autobiography leaves out no details and puts the listener directly into Alicia’s desperate and frightening existence as she struggles to survive Nazi occupied Poland. It’s important to hear this story and to remember the senseless and horrific actions during the holocaust.

Remarkable
One of the most engaging stories of Jewish survival from the Nazis I have read. It is remarkable what Alicia went through and managed to survive ~ a miracle. How inspiring, an example of true courage. She is especially to be commended for dedicating her life to telling her story, including this book. Be sure to listen all the way to the end, as there is a recording of Alicia’s voice speaking to schoolchildren.
