About this listen
But the greatest dream of the dragonriders was to find a way to eradicate Thread completely, so that never again would their beloved Pern be threatened with destruction.
Now, for the first time, it looks as if that dream can come true. For when the people of Pern, led by Masterharper Robinton and F'lar and Lessa, Weyr-leader and Weyrwoman of Benden Weyr, excavate the ancient remains of the planet's original settlement, they uncover the colonists' voice-activated artificial intelligence system - which still functions. And the computer has incredible news for them: There is a chance - a good chance - that they can, at long last, annihilate Thread once and for all.

"When McCaffrey's beloved dragons roar and their riders soar upon the beasts' mighty backs...fans of Pern will likely be enthralled." (Publishers Weekly)

I’ve always thought this book was a wonderful culmination of the Dragonriders of Pern.
I enjoy The Skies of Pern as the true final book and always look forward to re-reading it, However, All the Weyrs of Pern completes the arc that began with Dragonflight with the all the scientific magic and magnificence Anne McCaffrey brought to this beloved world from the beginning. My only regret is that despite having a powerful reading voice when he chose to use it, the narrator imbued several characters with a heavy American country twang. Anne McCaffrey was unusual for her time in making her cast of characters truly international, representing all the cultures of earth. To top it off, all teaching on Pern came from a single source (Harper Hall) with a major stated objective to prevent lingual shifts. Pronunciation of words would have been global with the probable exception of the nomadic traders. That said, it was almost as powerful listening to it as it was reading it myself.

Great Book! Very poor & disrespectful narration.
Great Book! McCaffrey was a genius of world building and character development. She also had a nack for balancing conflict and resolution to produce a story that grabes you and yet is an uplifting read. It's a major ingredient in the magic sauce that made her such a stellar story teller, in my opinion.
The narration is uninspired and frankly disrespectful. I'm not sure what tools the narrator was given but the finished product is far below what I've come to expect from Audible. They couldn't even bother to get the pronunciation consistent, let alone tone, pace and inflection. It's extremely jarring and unpleasant when reading the series, as I do every few years.

My favorite in the series
This is my favorite book in the series, even if I feel a little "guilty" thinking about all the previous books I enjoyed so much.
Anne McCaffrey brought me in her spell right away with the first book. Then I followed with delight in the series loving every new character as they appeared.
Dragonsdawn (Pern, #9) was a big surprise. Learning about the landing of the first humans on Pern was delightful.
But this book (Pern #11) was wonderful! For a society living in a medieval style culture, the discovery of a full technical setup with artificial intelligence to guide them in re-appropriating long lost knowledge was phenomenal. The role Jaxom and Ruth played in this story was proof (if needed be) of the importance of Jaxom's cracking that egg, even to everybody else's dismay.
The last pages made me cry... and I won't spoil it for would-be readers!
It is really a great book and the narrator is perfect.
