Publisher's Summary

Eighteen-year-old Aidan Salt isn't a superhero. With his powerful (and unpredictable) telekinetic abilities, he could be one if he wanted to, but he doesn't. He's unambitious, selfish, and cowardly, and he doesn't want to have to deal with all the paperwork required to become a professional superhero. But since the money, fame, and women that come with wearing the cape are appealing, he decides to become the first supervillain the world has seen in more than 20 years: Apex Strike.

However, he soon finds villainy in a world where the heroes have long since defeated all the supervillains. While half the world's heroes seem to want him dead, the other half want to hire him as their own personal villain to keep them relevant. Choosing the latter course, Aidan enters a world of fame, fortune, and staged superhero fights that is seemingly everything he ever dreamed of...at least until he sees what truly hides behind the cape-and-mask lifestyle.

Best Random Find

I didn't think much of the book going into it. The characters were very likeable and had a lot of depth. Voice acting was top notch with different accents per the characters in the book, over all great listen!

Loved it!

I was expecting a book that would be entertaining and would fill the space before finding the next great read.
What I didn't expect was how much I would truly enjoy this book!! I didn't want to put it down and I was sorry when I got to the end. I enjoyed this one so much that after this review I will be starting the book over from the beginning again! Thank you Matt Carter 😀

40% Cringe

The main character can't get laid, so choses to be a supervillain. Kind of hard to enjoy a book where the main character is an incel. In my opinion, anybody who uses the word "p***y" unironically is beyond unlikeable. I found the way he talked about women in general to be pretty uncomfortable.

However, the story is partly saved due to an interesting world with a unique history and interesting superpowers. While the story is more or less predictable, I found myself not needing to power through it as much once I reached the halfway point or so. Once the story concluded I actually hoped there would be more written within the universe. (Preferably without the main character)

Nicholas did a pretty great job narrating, and does accents very well. Actually gave me Wil Wheaton but better vibes. His skills were part of the reason I didn't stop reading early on.

Couldn't Finish It

I made it to chapter 6 or 7 before having to stop. The main character doesn't act like a teenage boy, he acts like a bag of misogyny. Other characters who express other bigotry are not shown to be incorrect. The concept was fun but the execution was lackluster. The narrator did a good job, I would listen to other books they narrate.
