Publisher's Summary

A pulse-pounding novel about a small-town business owner found dead and the teenage girl caught in the crosshairs, American Girl is the latest thriller from international best-selling author Wendy Walker.

Charlie Hudson, an autistic 17-year-old, is determined to leave Sawyer, PA, as soon as she graduates high school - in the meantime, she works as many hours as she can at a sandwich shop called The Triple S to save money for college. But when shop owner Clay Cooper - a man who is both respected and feared by many in this economically depressed community - is found dead, each member of his staff becomes a suspect in the perplexing case. Charlie must work to protect herself and her friends and uncover the danger that may still be at large in their tightknit community.

Best-selling author Wendy Walker returns with another riveting thriller, told through the eyes of an unforgettable protagonist.

Too long

Dragged out could have been cut down .. the whispering narration got annoying but the performance chapters were the worst ( very cheesy). It had a good storyline just too long!

ver intriguing

loved it. loved the way you took a girl who had autism and made a completely awesome character. Charlie is the epitome of the classic girl doing what she needs to do to survive.

Interesting perspective, great narration

Thoroughly enjoyed this novel. Loved the different perspective given on what would have been a run of the mill murder mystery. Really enjoyed the unique narration.

Amazing Narrator is young autism activist

I enjoyed the narrator so much I went to look her up. Sadly it's the only Audible title she has narrated. But I found out that she is a young adult and has autism herself, which is probably what made her such a credible narrator for this book. She doesn't go over the top with the voices but has enough variation for each character so you know who it is. There were a couple of holes in the plot of the story but still a totally enjoyable listen.

Mystery

Excellent mystery novel. Narrators did an excellent job. Very descriptive language, which is not for everyone. But nail bitting till the end.

Surprisingly Great

I really liked this novel. The lead character is fantastically developed and the author represents neurodivergence, not as a trope - like most do - but in a genuine and meaningful way. The story is clever, and politically conscious in a thoughtful and complex way, and the narrator is exceptional. Highly recommend!
