About this listen

The second book in the acclaimed Licanius Trilogy by James Islington.

In the wake of a devastating attack, an amnesty has been declared for all Augurs - finally allowing them to emerge from hiding and openly oppose the dark forces massing against the land of Andarra. As the Augur Davian and his new allies hurry north toward the ever-weakening Boundary, however, fresh horrors along their path suggest that their reprieve may have come far too late.

His ally in the Capital, the new Northwarden, contends with assassins and politicians and uncovers a dangerous political secret. Meanwhile, their compatriot Asha begins a secret investigation into the disappearance of the Shadows.

And Caeden races against time to fulfill his treacherous bargain with the Lyth, but as more and more of his memories return, he begins to realize that the two sides in this ancient war may not be as clear-cut as they first seemed....

I love this trilogy!

Great story and characters. The characters continued to be developed from the last book and more questions and answers are brought up. I love the philosophy and moral questions this book brings to light. Fantastic listen and narrated beautifully.

Great listen!

This part 2 does not disappoint, the story only gets more involved and more engaging. Plot twists and a lot of action keep the story rolling, keep the reader guessing. I’m very much looking forward to the third book. Te performance here is solid and continual. Michael Kramer has grown on me!

Always a great reading by Michael Kramer.

I choose my books by author and reader. I find that one or the other will deliver a good listen. Michael Kramer has led me to some good to excellent authors. I've never been disappointed with a book that he reads.

Give this series a chance!

Despite the clunky titles of these books, they are really good. I love Michael Kramer’s narration. If you like anything by Brandon Sanderson you’ll like this series. Interesting world, original and creative mythology, compelling characters, and a plot full of unexpected twists and turns. I really enjoyed these.

Great story, complicated to listen to

Narrator is fantastic but this book is so complicated! A physical copy may be best. I had to go back and re-listen to many parts. Story is compelling though!

fantastic story, grizzly. still not a fan of Krame

it was and is a great series, James Islington is merciless when it comes to killing off non-essential characters but it makes for a compelling and realistic story. i still find michael Kramer monotone when compared to other narrators, however he is very clear and I can still tell when a new character is being presented just by the change in voice.

take it easy on the first time writer

loved it, can be confusing at times but there is a lot going on. Also this is a fairly new author so expect it to be rough around the edges. That beung said, if this is how he writes now, imagine how good he has the potential of being with practice. :)

Narration error?

Potential reading error around -26 into chapter 34, the narrator reads, "snatched back her father's notebook" when it should be "his father's". I am not sure if this error is also in the written version of the novel.
