Publisher's Summary

A promising young surgeon, Andrej Koscuikso has come, with great reluctance, to study at a military orientation center adrift in black space. Against his will, he will train here to serve as a "Ship's Inquisitor" - a vocation that runs counter to his deepest moral convictions.

disturbing and compelling

I first read this 10 years ago and it haunted me since. I was surprised by how many details had stuck in my mind over the years, unlike many other books. I'm drawn to the next in the series. its strange and disturbing and intriguing and though set in a sci fi world, is so much about the people and their tortured relations versus any kind of space opera type thing. recommended though not for the faint of heart
